Speech of H.E İnan Özyıldız at the 3rd Turkish Film Festival , 03.04.2013

Dear Guests,

It is a distinct pleasure for me to welcome you on the occasion of the third edition of the Turkish Film Festival in Lebanon.

Arab public in general and the Lebanese society in particular are showing a great interest in Turkish movies and television series. This growing interest is no doubt a valuable element for enhancing cultural ties and understanding between Turkey and Lebanon.

Most of the television series known to the Arab audience are the ones that had also reached to same level of outreach in Turkey. However, this festival is aiming to bring a less known, but an equally important aspect of the Turkish film industry, by putting emphasis on the festival films which are produced not only for commercial purposes, but also for artistic and social standings.

For example, today we will be opening the festival by a film focusing on a social problem still affecting the Turkish society, the case of the forced brides of underage. The film is also witnessing the return of a legendary actor İlyas Salman after 25 years.

The İzmir Cinema Association has been organizing this event since 2011 with great success, by consistently enlarging its scope and outreach. The festival draws the attention of film experts and the Lebanese audience at large. I am sure that the positive feedbacks are encouraging the organizers to pursue this important cinema event in the years ahead.

I have to note that this year the organizers increased the number of screenings in Saida and Tripoli.

Taking this opportunity, I would like extend my sincere thanks to the İzmir Cinema Association and their counterparts in Lebanon, most notably Metropolis Art Cinema Association and Mrs. Hania Mroue, for their work in organizing this festival and I am sure that this event will offer to the Lebanese audience a taste of the most recent products of the Turkish cinema.

Thank you very much.
